random question

Hello! I have a question about language. If you are listening to someone speak another language and can pick out some of what they are saying but can't make sense of the whole phrase, would this still be activating Broca's Area since there isn't really "comprehension", but rather the recognition of certain words?

Actually, the comprehension area is Wernicke's area -- Broca's area has to do with language production. But to answer your question, your phrasing of made it seem like the listener did understand some of the words (beyond merely recognizing them), and so in that case Wernicke's area would be activated.

Oh right I'm sorry I mixed those up... I was thinking about the two different types of aphasia and how Broca's aphasia is when the comprehension is intact... but yes that would make sense since Broca's Area is involved in speech production and not comprehension. Thanks for clearing that up!
