Do you know how long they started the ASIMO program?
I couldn't find the background information for the project. BTW the video was amazing. I never expected honda to produce such an intelligent, multi-capable robot though.

Dev, really interesting! I've seen commercials for it on TV, but I always just thought it was a kid in a space suit! John, it looks like the current ASIMO is the 11th one and Honda started this project in 1986. You can apparently hire them to do stuff! For the low, low price of $166K per year.
John, sorry for the late reply... as I-Chant said the project started in 1986.
The next step is towards bringing cognition to Asimo.
I agree with LD, Honda does have a great head start, however, most current research in Cybernetics is much more advanced in academic realms. Most projects tend to be pretty discreet. But Honda definitely is years ahead on field testing and site testing...
Last bit of trivia: It is often believed that the name ASIMO was selected to honor Isaac Asimov... Later, the govt. had some problems with that notion and they were quick to fill up the acronym.
actually my dad works with honda because he directs the Los Angeles marathon, which honda sponsers. they have been trying for a few years to make asimo able to run the marathon, its really amazing what it can do
That is incredible. I previously had no idea that a robot was capable of such dynamic motion. I noticed that Honda uses ASIMO in a Dream Factory presentation. I think that exposure to this level of technology would be beneficial to all age groups.
